BYO Bike and learn how to maintain it May 23

May 17th, 2023

Adam Kingsland (Faculty, Mechanical Engineering) will be giving a bike repair and tune-up workshop on Tuesday, May 23 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Spots are limited so reserve your spot by emailing sustainability@dawsoncollege.qc.ca. Bring your bike to the Gazebo in Parking Lot 1 (Wood Avenue side of campus) and learn how to:

  1. Change a tube & pump up your tires
  2. Adjust your brakes
  3. Adjust your gears / shifters

The countdown is on to Vernissage Season at Dawson. Graduating students in Visual Arts, Illustration, Professional Photography, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, 3D Animation and Computer Generated Imagery and Interior Design will present their work in end-of-year exhibitions.

The ýCollege Professional Photography graduating class of 2023 is thrilled to invite you to our highly anticipated vernissage and exhibition, "Between Us"!  

Please join us in Conrod's at ýCollege for an opening night vernissage on Wednesday, May 24 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Come and appreciate the artistry of our class while enjoying live music and refreshments, as we showcase our best photographic work and celebrate the culmination of our studies. The "Between Us" exhibition will be open until Saturday, May 28.

Come see work of Resist Violence class May 11

In 3B.6 and in the near hallway on Thursday, May 11 between 3 and 6 p.m., you are invited to participate, witness and be moved by the innovative and important work that has been made by this year’s Resist Violence class.

Whether making a political statement with hostile architecture, spreading awareness through paintings, or inspiring us to look at things from a new angle, student artists are working with testimonials, storytelling and performance art. Addressing what it means to be human today, pieces will surely provoke you to reckon with the world the way it is and find a new way to get "Home Safe."


Toward 1,000 species update

More people are joining Dawson's 1,000 Species in 1,000 Days initiative every week.

The total number of species identified on Dawson's one-block campus is now at 479! For the week of April 17, Dawson's iNaturalist community, , there were 31 new species counted, 24 new observers joining the community and 361 new observations. The week of April 24, there were 12 new species, 4 new observers, and 97 new observations.

Students interview visual artist Renee Condo

This week, ýbecame one of the few places in Canada to host an exhibition by a nominee of the prestigious Sobey Art Award. Renee Condo is a visual artist of Mi’gmaw descent, hailing from the community of Gesgapegiag, Québec. Shifting Perspectives features her artwork constructed from wooden beads at the Warren G. Flowers Art Gallery until May 6.  On a recent Tuesday afternoon, two visual arts students, Ella Gauthier and Alessandro Ruvo, had the opportunity to ask Condo a few questions.

Professional Photography students staff grad portrait pop-up studio

The ýProfessional Photography students partnered again this year with Campus Life and Leadership (CLL) and members of the ýWeb Group to offer graduation portraits to over 600 of 2023 ýgrads. The collaboration is an excellent example of communities working together to achieve mutually beneficial goals.
