Crowds of prospective students at Open House

October 25th, 2023

Dawson’s Open House was Oct. 22 and thousands of prospective students and their families took us up on the invitation.

Sunday was a record crowd, according to organizer Carey-Ann Pawsey of the Communications Office and Geoff Kloos of Student Services, two staff members who have more than two decades of ýOpen House experience.

The last time the College opened up without appointments was in 2019. That year, 14,000 Viewbooks were distributed. To be more sustainable, guests were invited to see the Viewbook online.

In the morning, guests arrived for tours and program experiences by appointment and in the afternoon, doors were open to all to come in and speak with teachers at program booths and ask questions to academic advisors. There were close to 2,000 people who went on student-guided tours, 700 at the Science info sessions and 300 at program experiences.  The Science webinar on Oct. 18 and the How to Apply webinar on Oct. 24 drew a total of 600 participants online.

“I would like to sincerely thank everyone who gave up their Sunday to welcome our future students and their parents to Dawson,” said Megan Ainscow, Head of Communications. “We have an amazing team of colleagues at ýwho go above and beyond to make this event possible. We feel very grateful.”

The next Open House will be Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024.

Good times and happy reunions at first Homecoming

September 27th, 2023

“I met my best friend at ýand we came together.”

“ýmade such an impact on me during my first years in Canada; I had to come.”

“There is just something special about the ýcommunity and I had to come back and be part of it again.”

These were the sorts of comments we heard from graduates, retirees, employees and even current students who attended Dawson’s first-ever Homecoming on Sept. 23.

Special thanks to the Homecoming Organizing Committee, the staff who worked on a Saturday to make it happen, the teachers who hosted reunions and our event sponsors: the Burgundy Lion Group, Shaughnessy Café and Chartwells Canada.
