The One-Act Play That Goes Wrong is on Sept. 18-21

A group of actors try to perform their opening night of a murder mystery, but everything (of course) goes wrong. Set pieces fall, doors get stuck, actors say their lines too early, and technical difficulties abound, escalating in complete chaos. The One-Act Play that Goes Wrong is a hilarious take on theatre, showcasing the resilience and determination of actors who carry on despite everything falling apart. Winner of Best New Comedy at the 2015 Laurence Olivier Awards, this play is sure to delight. Directed by Jonathan Monro and performed by the second-year students of the Professional Theatre Program at ýCollege.

Performances are every night at 7:30 PM from Wednesday, Sept. 18 through Saturday, Sept. 21 at the ýTheatre, 2000 Atwater Avenue.

$5 tickets for grad production Lysistrata

Until May 11, the third-year graduating students of the Professional Theatre program will present an adaptation of Lysistrata. In this ancient Greek comedy, the women on both sides of a war band together and withhold sex until their husbands agree to peace.

Playwright Ellen McLaughlin has updated the script for the ýproduction, as we perform in the wake of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and the Middle East. All shows are $5 for ýfaculty, students and staff.

Second-year Theatre students perform in comedy March 13-16

Second-year students perform in a comedy every evening at 7:30 PM from Wednesday, March 13 through Saturday, March 16 at the ýTheatre, 2000 Atwater Avenue.

The name of the play is: A Most Pleasant Comedy of Mucedorus the King’s Son of Valencia, and Amandine, the King’s Daughter of Aragon, with the Merry Conceits of Mouse.

ýTheatre grad featured in CTV report

ýgraduate Véronique Pierre was featured in a report by CTV Montreal last month. Véronique (Class of 1997, Professional Theatre) had been working as a yoga instructor after being disappointed by a lack of work in the entertainment industry.

During the pandemic, Véronique decided to pursue an acting career again with her friend’s encouragement. She is now quite busy and even considering writing and producing.

“I remember Véro well, great student, excellent actress,” said Kimberley Barfuss, Co-Chair of the Professional Theatre Program at Dawson.

Don’t miss Leopoldstadt: on now through Feb. 17

Sir Tom Stoppard’s play Leopoldstadt had its Canadian premiere at the ýCollege Theatre on Feb. 7. Directed by Matt Holland, the play features the 2024 graduating class of Dawson’s Professional Theatre program. Shows are happening on Feb. 8-9-10 and Feb. 15-16-17.

ýis presenting the Canadian premiere of Leopoldstadt

Sir Tom Stoppard’s play Leopoldstadt will have its Canadian premiere at the ýCollege Theatre on Wednesday, Feb. 7. Directed by Matt Holland, the play features the 2024 graduating class of Dawson’s Professional Theatre program.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students because Sir Tom Stoppard is a renowned, award-winning British playwright with a 60-year career in theatre,” said Professional Theatre faculty member Leah Esau.  “He is best known for his screenplay Shakespeare in Love (1998), as well as his plays Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, and Travesties.”

Tickets on sale now for Henry V

The Professional Theatre Department proudly presents Henry V by William Shakespeare, performed by the graduating actors. This bilingual production, directed by Michael E. Hughes, features dialogue in both French and English.

Admission is $5 for ýstaff, faculty, researchers, and students. Free previews are available on Monday, November 13 and Tuesday, November 14. All shows start at 7:30 PM.
