DAWSCON is on!

DAWSCON, the free software conference at ýCollege, is on as usual this year. The fifth annual conference for students and developers will be taking place virtually on Friday, Jan. 15, 2021.

“This year, we’re going international because we can,” said organizer and Computer Science faculty member Ken Fogel. “It is really exciting having a lot of speakers. Programmers make a commitment to lifelong learning and DAWSCON is a great opportunity to continue learning.”


Three ýstudents featured as inspiring young Canadians

ýstudents Kahenientha Cross and John Nathaniel Gertler and ýgraduate Ella Noel were featured in a CBC news report in the lead up to The Nature of Things documentary, Rebellion. Scenes of students preparing for the climate march were filmed at ýlast year.


Update on Dawson’s AASHE audit

November 3rd, 2020

Dawson’s 211-page sustainability report was submitted to the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) review committee in September. Almost 90% of indicator reporting and supporting documents were accepted and the Sustainability Office has 60 days to respond to questions concerning the other 10%. This is Dawson’s first attempt at an international rating in sustainability and we are hoping to be recognized at a high level. The entire College community has worked hard to contribute data and processes and to modify practices that lead to well-being for all. Stay tuned for results soon!


Ann Lambert’s second book published

The new book of Ann Lambert, who taught English at ýfor almost three decades, has just been published. The Dogs of Winter is a compelling story full of hot button Canadian topics pulled from the headlines.

A murderer with a twisted mission targets the most vulnerable on the frigid streets of Montreal while scenes unfold revealing how the #MeToo movement has changed the conversation, but not nearly enough.

It is Ann's second novel in the Russell and Leduc mystery series.

Dawson’s climate rebels on The Nature of Things Nov. 6

The 60th anniversary season premiere of The Nature of Things hosted by David Suzuki on Nov. 6 features an action-filled documentary that captures the beginnings of a movement that is changing the world.

Rebellion brings viewers to the front lines of the climate rebellion, including ýCollege on Sept. 26, 2019, the day before the historic climate march in Montreal with Greta Thunberg and 500,000 peaceful protesters.
