Lizanne Murphy returns to Dawson!

Lizanne Murphy is back at °®¶¹´«Ã½as an assistant coach for the Division 1 Women's Basketball Team.

"°®¶¹´«Ã½felt like home," she said. "It's such a great feeling to be back."

Lizanne was part of the first team recruited by Head Coach Trevor Williams and graduated from Health Science in 2003. She went on to play professionally, represented Canada at the Olympics and won a gold medal at the 2015 Pan Am Games.

Lizanne believes there are many young players on Dawson's team who could follow in her footsteps and she looks forward to sharing her knowledge with them.

The team is currently meeting online and training at home while they look forward to practicing and playing games again in January.

Refugee Boulevard wins another major prize

Refugee Boulevard: Making Montreal Home After the Holocaust (refugeeboulevard.ca) has won the U.S. Oral History Association Mason Multi-Media Award. The SSHRC-funded project is the work of °®¶¹´«Ã½faculty members Nancy Rebelo and Stacey Zembrycki along with Anna Sheftel from St. Paul University and Eszter Andor from the Montreal Holocaust Museum.

The project was created in close collaboration with Holocaust survivors who settled in Montreal in the post-WWII period.

Over the summer, the team created a virtual component to accompany the audio for those who can’t experience the tour in the neighborhood. Here are the links to the virtual tour:

"It is our hope that listening to survivors share their stories in the tour will open up conversations that help validate the roles immigrants play in our past and current communities," Nancy said.

46 new videos to be launched at Open House!

It was lights, camera, action all last week as the Communications Office shot 46 videos for Dawson's first ever Virtual Open House, taking place Oct. 20-25.

Special thanks go to the program and profile coordinators and all others who acted as spokespersons as well as the team of people involved in script writing and preparing. You are all part of our Open House Miracle!

Resistance and Resilience opens Oct. 8

Following the success of Skénn:en: Peace and Decolonization (2017) and Queer and Peace (2018), Diana Rice (Programming Coordinator, Peace Centre) prophetically conceived of a project that would provide a space for those voices traditionally unheard and often ignored: Legacy and racialized immigrant communities. Once again collaborating with Rhonda Meier of the Warren G. Flowers Art Gallery, the work began in 2018 to create a platform for artists to display their experiences of racism and systemic oppression.

Maclean’s magazine features °®¶¹´«Ã½in 2-page spread

°®¶¹´«Ã½College, our environmental profiles in Social Science and Science and our Sustainability Office are featured in Maclean's 2021 Canadian Colleges Guidebook, now available in print on news stands across Canada.

A two-page spread on pages 38-39 features a report by Jennifer Lewington entitled Where green is all there is to be that is accompanied by a large photo of our Sustainabili-Team volunteers working in the Theatre Garden this summer.ÌýJennifer spoke to Chris Adam of the Sustainability Office, faculty members Anna-Liisa Aunio and Brian Mader and student John Nathaniel Gertler, who mentioned that he switched to °®¶¹´«Ã½for our environmental offerings.

°®¶¹´«Ã½Industrial Design graduate Alejandrina Hernandez was featured in the Journal de Montréal on Aug. 27. The Montreal newspaper covered the story from D News last May.

Congrats to the Class of 2020!

Another 2,600 graduates joined the big family of °®¶¹´«Ã½College alumni over the summer.

In the coming weeks, they will all receive a special grad package in the mail. The College made a special Virtual Commencement Speech video addressed to the Class of 2020 and held an intimate Awards Ceremony Aug. 12.

Faculty Hub supported teachers in pandemic emergency

June 16th, 2020

On March 11, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. Two days later, classes ended for spring break and °®¶¹´«Ã½College closed for what turned out to be the rest of the semester. Teachers and the newly launched Faculty Hub were plunged into an education emergency: completing the semester for about 9,000 students.
