Teachers saving the semester

For the past two weeks, many teachers have become students learning all about online teaching platforms. They have also been working hard to adapt course outlines and figure out how to present their material online while maintaining academic integrity and continuing to engage their students.

Live COVID-19 graph focused on Quebec developed by °®¶¹´«Ã½teachers

Jonathon Sumner (Physics) started working on a live interactive graph project with the idea of showing the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic in different parts of the world, while normalizing for population size, as well as showing the impact of interventions like physical distancing.

Our Loran Scholar Margaux Roncière (a °®¶¹´«Ã½College student in her last year of Pure and Applied Science) was interviewed on CBC Radio's afternoon program Let's Go on March 16. The Loran is Canada's largest undergraduate scholarship.

Working on solutions and processing applications

°®¶¹´«Ã½College is working on solutions to salvage the semester and applications are being processed as usual.

As of March 23, the Admissions Team had sent out 4,700 offers of admission.

°®¶¹´«Ã½College shared this news with our employees first and then with select media on March 20. CJAD 800 AM interviewed Director General Richard Filion during the Andrew Carter Morning Show March 23.

Doubly proud of our Blues!

Two °®¶¹´«Ã½Blues Division 1 Basketball players, Taisha Exanor and Mackenzie Ash-Smith, have made history! On March 18, the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) announced that Taisha and Mackenzie are recognized as 2020 CCAA Women’s Basketball All-Canadians.

The student-athletes are selected by their conference based on performance and contribution to the sport and their team. Dawson's conference is the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ and our players were chosen by the RSEQ league coaches.

It is the first time since 1986 that two Blues were named All-Canadians, and it is the first-time since 2008 that an RSEQ team has two.

°®¶¹´«Ã½students start babysitting service for those in need

March 17th, 2020

°®¶¹´«Ã½College student Tristan Hamer has created a volunteer movement of young people in high school and CEGEP to provide free or pay what you can babysitting services for people in need of childcare during the school shutdown. First Int’l Math Day celebrated last Thursday

The first International Day of Mathematics (March 14) was celebrated at °®¶¹´«Ã½on Thursday.

Andreea Panait of Dawson's Mathematics Department reported: "We started the day with some wonders in Mathematics, then we moved to the history of Calculus and we ended with some applied math in creating interesting apps. To complete the day, we gave prizes for the math poster contest."

Students Sara Boubekri (pictured with Andreea) and Zaina Mahran were the winners.


50 years of Women’s Studies

March 10th, 2020

Greta Hofmann Nemiroff, a pioneer in Women's Studies in Canada and at °®¶¹´«Ã½College, was here March 6 for a panel discussion moderated by Pat Romano about Women's Studies. The other panelists were Shree Mulay (Memorial University) and Alanna Thain (McGill University).
