Faculty and professionals invited to Ped Day Oct. 13

Join your colleagues at the ýCollege Pedagogical Day Friday, Oct. 13. It begins at 8:30 AM with a light breakfast in 5B.16. At 9 AM, Erin Barker will give the keynote talk entitled “Transition and Resilience Building in Emerging Adulthood.

Erin Barker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and member of the Centre for Research in Human Development at Concordia University, where she directs the Lifespan Well-Being Laboratory.

Workshops will take place starting at 10:30 AM and at 2 PM.

Registration for workshops will close Oct. 10 at 12 PM to provide participant lists to presenters. Some sessions have attendance limits so register early!

Free non-credit Cont. Ed. courses for ýemployees

Any ýemployee who has been employed for at least six months may take courses for free in the College’s Centre for Training and Development (CTD).

Fall registration is on now and many courses begin in mid to late September. To register, a ýemployee must email either Cindy Cousins ccousins@dawsoncollege.qc.ca or ctd@dawsoncollege.qc.ca and fill out a form.

Living with Covid – Fall 2023

As we begin a new semester, many employees and students have questions about Covid and Covid symptoms.

At this stage of the pandemic, COVID is handled the same way as any other illness:

  • There is no longer an isolation period
  • If you are well enough to study or work, it would be courteous to wear a mask and follow the

Employees need to know:

  • If you are not well enough to work: you must inform your supervisor and enter a sick day in the time management system in Omnivox
  • If you are sick for more than 5 consecutive work days: you must communicate with Benefitsbecause this would be a medical leave

Big cohort from ýreceive Performa certificates

There was a large delegation from ýto the Performa celebration evening on May 18. Faculty and professionals from the English CEGEPs who had completed various levels of the professional development program over the last four years received their diplomas at Champlain College.

We are so #DawsonProud of our colleagues! Director General Diane Gauvin attended to celebrate with those who completed their M.Ed. in College Teaching (pictured with blue shoulder sash): Vanessa Gangai, Alison Gelinas, Caroline Haddad, Mary Hlywa (retired), Mark Mattei, Vincenza Pascale and Andreas Tsatoumas (no longer at Dawson).

PERFORMA (Perfectionnement et Formation des Maîtres au Collégial) is a program in the Faculty of Education at the University of Sherbrooke, providing a network of professional development offering in college education. It offers graduate level certificates, diplomas and degrees in college-level teaching for current CEGEP teachers and educational professionals at a part-time pace to accommodate college-level workload. Performa programs include both French and English streams.

In the English stream, college teachers can enroll in the Master Teacher Program to work towards the Graduate Certificate in College Teaching (GCCT) of 15 credits, which can serve as core credits for the Graduate Diploma in College Teaching (GDCT) of 30 credits. Obtaining 15 additional core course credits leads to the completion of a Master of Education in College Teaching (M.Ed.) of 45 credits.

New Coordinator of Finance

Angela Pomponi began her new role as Coordinator of Finance on Feb. 20. A Chartered Professional Accountant, Angela brings over two decades of experience to Dawson, including her most recent position as the Manager of Financial Resources with the CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l'ile-de-Montreal.

In her new role, Angela will be responsible for the conception, establishment and maintenance of financial procedures and schedules of activities in the areas of invoicing and student fees, accounts receivable, accounts payable, research grant reporting and treasury operations.


New group insurance rates

January 25th, 2023

Please note that the College has received new group insurance rates from SSQ and Beneva for 2023. These new rates came into into effect on the pay of January 19, 2023.  Please take the time to review your coverage and the premium deductions on your pay of January 19, 2023 to ensure that there are no errors. 

Staff with group insurance coverage can find all pertinent information (rates, information brochures, etc.) on Dawson’s website under the Employee Insurance and Benefit tab:  /human-resources/employee-insurance-and-benefits/. Choose among the employment categories available and then scroll down for the rates.

Karen Gazith’s keynote address at Intercollegiate Ped Days on Jan. 10 served as a crash course in how to be an effective teacher. Entitled Teaching with Purpose, her address had the same name as the book she published in 2020. “How well we teach is the most critical factor” in a student’s success, she said….
