Sixth °®¶¹´«Ã½cohort begins AI Launch Lab/°®¶¹´«Ã½AI series Feb. 10

AI Launch Lab and °®¶¹´«Ã½AI are offering a sixth series of workshops on artificial intelligence beginning Feb. 10.

Registration is open to all college students for a free eight-week online course on Saturday mornings beginning Feb. 10.

Social Science Week is Feb. 12-16

Social Science Week is next week! There is a diverse array of speakers and topics to interest everyone at Dawson’s Social Science Week 2024, from Monday, Feb. 12 through Friday, Feb. 16. All events are taking place in 5B.16 at °®¶¹´«Ã½and every day concludes with a Cinema Politica film screening at 6:30 PM.

Cultural safety in the workplace lunch ‘n learn on Dec. 6

The First Nations Human Resources Development Commission of Québec (FNHRDCQ), a long time partner of will give a talk online on Wednesday, Dec. 6 from 12 PM to 1 PM about cultural safety in the workplace. It aims to increase our knowledge of the cultural context and help us adopt practices that promote equity with First Nations. This is a first step in an ongoing process to recognize First Nations skills, improve their access to employment and ensure an inclusive development.

Simultaneous translation from French to English will be provided. For registration:

Six employees complete Sustainable Happiness course

Six employees at °®¶¹´«Ã½and seven employees at John Abbott College successfully completed this semester's Employee Sustainable Happiness 24-hour certificate. Jennifer de Vera (Sustainability Office) and Azra Khan (Human Resources) facilitated the course and °®¶¹´«Ã½lent Jenn to lead the John Abbott course with Shannon Coulter-Low.

The non-credit course developed at Dawson, now being taught around the world, aims to help people live their best lives by taking care of themselves so they can in turn take care of others and Nature.

Sustainable Happiness is a major benefit to °®¶¹´«Ã½employees who are given work time with the approval of a manager to take the course. Each participant must complete a final project.

Jenn reports that this year's projects included:

  • Benefits of talking to strangers
  • Mapping where ingredients from meals come from and how to improve
  • "Reel it in" upcycling VHS tapes from the library through creative projects
  • Laminating all English Exit Exam signs for annual reuse and adding the biophilic design of live plants to the gym during the exam
  • Creating a zen area in the Campus Life and Leadership (CLL) office, and doing daily actions for happiness with CLL staff and student volunteers

°®¶¹´«Ã½Science Students Visit The NRC & TSB In Ottawa

During the March break, 33 students from the Science and the Enriched Science Program spent a day visiting labs and research facilities at the National Research Council (NRC) and the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) in Ottawa.

Separated into three groups, students were given tours of 12 different facilities where they learned about world-class research and engineering in fields such as ocean & coastal research, flight research, metrology, nanotechnology, photonics, printable electronics, human therapeutics, and advanced non-linear optical imaging and spectroscopy. The trip was organized by Chris Whittaker (Physics) and students were accompanied by Carmen Leung (Chemistry) and Jean-François Brière (Physics). Funds for the trip came from students and the Student Success Action Plan fund.


Fine Arts Print Party was a huge success

March 8th, 2023

The Fine Arts Department recently held a Print Party on March 4, providing Visual Arts and Studio Arts students with a fun and stress-relieving mid-semester break. The event was conducted by French Press, a Montreal-based design and screen printing studio that includes °®¶¹´«Ã½alumni. They shared insights into their journey since graduating from Dawson, which led to the formation of this creative collective.

During the event, students had the opportunity to learn about silkscreen printing and try their hand at printing French Press designs onto t-shirts and tote bags. This experience allowed students to expand their artistic skills and gain practical knowledge in the field. Overall, the Print Party was a huge success!
