Record number of new students attended Welcome Days

August 29th, 2024

Welcome Days occurred on August 19 and 20, 2024 with a record attendance of 2,675 students! This is an increase of 279 students over last year.

Excited students attended presentations, explored the college, and learned about opportunities to get involved in Campus Life. They also took pictures with Blue, our celebrity volunteer, who was hard at work (see )!

One of the highlights of this year was handing out agendas to the students. This project stemmed from a months-long collaboration between Student Services and the ýStudent Union to offer this in-demand item.

Welcome Days is a team effort meaning that it can’t be successful without the participation of multiple departments, teachers, staff and student volunteers. I’d like to thank everyone that helped make these two days possible, whether you gave a program presentation, set up one of the rooms, worked at the sign-in table, promoted your service, took students from one place to another or handed out popcorn!

ýcommunity achieved Push-Up Challenge goal

March 1st, 2024

This winter the ýCommunity stepped up to the challenge of being active and supporting mental health initiatives! After 23 days, the Push-Up Challenge has concluded with the achievement of our modest community goal of 2,000 repetitions from all participants. In fact, we reached over 31 times that amount with 62,729 repetitions! We couldn’t have done it without two very dedicated teams: Sigma Nation (20,666 reps) and the ýPhys. Ed. Team (13,976 reps)! In addition, ýCollege raised $705 for the Canadian Mental Health Association.

Student Services and Human Resources worked together to offer participation prizes to students and staff. Prizes included gift certificates for IGA, Sports Experts, Lulu Lemon, Cage aux Sports and more! The winners are currently being contacted.

Many thanks to all the participants and organizers, especially Rhea Gurnagul who was present at the Push-Up Challenge Station almost every lunch time!

Our hope is that the ýcommunity will continue to stay active and build a habit of working out regularly.
